We Have An Opportunity.... Embrace It

Today's the day of the World Cup Final. Four years of hard work will finally pay off for one team.

Either Spain or the Netherlands will lift the World Cup trophy for the first time in their long and storied histories.

As Americans we are bystanders to this global phenomenon that is soccer. This year we saw our own National Team reach amazing heights only to fall short in our hopes and dreams. Our time will come, but today we enjoy the beauty that is the final chapter in this 2010 World Cup.

We saw this year that, perhaps, this was the watershed moment for the sport in the United States. Millions watches in wonder as Landon Donovan and company brought us to the brink and back over and over.

In American we have many choices when it comes to our sports, our heroes, our hard-earned dollars that we spend as fans. Yes we have our baseball, football, basketball... but there's room for one more sport in our heart.

Today take your friends and family to where ever the World Cup in playing.

Invite your best friend who is your best friend despite not understanding the sport that you love. Take them to the bar.

Invite your neighbor who has time and time again heard your screams of joy from across the property line. Bring them into your home.

Invite your family, the ones that supported you as a kid playing even though they never fully got the rules. Gather around the television.

These are the moments that we build soccer in America.

Beer helps, too.

So will this:

Oh Martin Sheen... you're voice over makes everything make sense!
